Elementary School Program

Designed for students in grades 1-4, our elementary program is just right! We use the Studies Weekly program to provide a student-friendly Social Studies curriculum with units in civics and government, geography, economics, and history. Here's what our U.S. Mission families love about our program:

  • Each stand alone lesson can be adapted to your schedule.

  • Parents receive an email each week with a blueprint and video (grades 3-4 only)

  • Complete the work online using the Studies Weekly platform or via newspaper style lessons. Same content, different format

  • Lessons are research-based, standards- aligned, and interactive.

High School Program

We searched high and low to find a program for our high school students and we found the best, U.S. History A (1775-1945) adn U.S. History B (1945-present). Both courses have been designed by Edmentum to ensure they are research-based, include multi-modal learning units, and robust reporting. We do even more.

  • Each 0.5 credit course is 90 days although we have flexibility to meet your child’s needs.

  • Students can be exempted from content they already know through student mastery tests.

  • Each unit includes a Unit Activity and Unit Discussion marked by one of our VA licensed educators.

  • Each course is accredited by the Middle States Association and should confer credits toward graduation and college-entry requirements.

Why Us History for Expats?

I started teaching in North Carolina in 2000. After a few years in the States I was granted an opportunity of a lifetime as an education volunteer for the Peace Corps in El Sauce, Nicaragua. After my time in the Peace Corps I taught at the American International School in Managua for year before packing two suitcases and moving to Rabat, Morocco to teach at the Rabat American School. Since then, I met my wife, a career diplomat and we’ve moved all over the world where I’ve had the pleasure of teaching in seven international schools. However, I realized something was missing; U.S. History.
In 2019, I started creating a set of middle school courses covering the U.S. history courses students overseas would get modeling the Virginia Standards of Learning. Since then, U.S. History for Expats has expanded to include grades 1-12. In addition, our middle and high schools courses have been accredited by the Middle States Association.
Our mission is simple. “To provide the best elementary, middle and high school U.S. history courses for U.S. citizens living outside the United States.” I encourage you to figure out why and become part of our U.S. History for Expats Community.

  • “It's the only course tailored to expats that offers a real connection to the teacher, and real feedback, as if it were another class at school.”

-Parent of a US History I student

  • This course fills a gap in education our kids receive at a local school overseas. Without this, they wouldn’t know basic American history. It’s not just the substantive content, though, it’s the thoughtful, analytical approach to learning and critical thinking that is missing in our overseas/local Portuguese school. This course will facilitate our transition back to schools in the U.S. next summer.

-Meg Campbell, parent of two U.S. History I students

  • “I no longer find history boring, I enjoy the projects, the material is clearly presented and I like the individual feedback I get on the assignments I turn in.

    -U.S. History II student

  • It helped my daughter both learn the historical content as well as strengthened her academic skills (research, analysis, citation.)

    -U.S. History I parent

  • Thank you so much for a really great course. In addition to learning key U.S. history facts, our child really grew as an independent learner throughout this course. She was challenged to think critically and express what she learned in a variety of final projects that pushed her to try harder. We're really glad we signed up for it, thank you again!

Jenni, parent of Grade 5 student

  • "It's the perfect solution"

-Parent of a U.S. History I, U.S. History II, and Civics & Economics Student
