Testimonials
“It's the only course tailored to expats that offers a real connection to the teacher, and real feedback, as if it were another class at school.”
-Parent of a US History I student
My daughter definitely got access to content that is not being covered at her international school. The course grading rubric is very current and very much in line with how she is evaluated in her other subjects. The projects allowed for a good deal of creativity, which she found fun as well as educational.
— Parent of U.S. History I & II StudentThe subject matter is delivered in an interesting and engaging way. The students have varied experiences to interact with the subject matter. It's not just "consume info, take a quiz, then a test, repeat for the next unit." The personalized and specific feedback also helps the student not only know what they did well, but also what they can improve for next time. The students are challenged to turn in their best work, and given an opportunity to do it again if needed. This ensures they are rising up to their abilities and appropriately encouraged to do better when necessary.

“My daughter had received some instruction on U.S. history at other schools, but the U.S. History I course provided her a comprehensive review of historical events from our nation's origins and founding all the way to the Civil War.”

Your courses are so much better than the other options commonly used and available for FS families but we underestimated the time investment. I do think she is getting a lot out of them and we really appreciate the excellent feedback and encouragement.- Parent of U.S. History I student

I thought it more closely mirrored a real US history class.

It's the only course tailored to expats that offers a real connection to the teacher, and real feedback, as if it were another class at school. The accreditation approval is also very important and sets this class apart.

For grades 6-12, I highly recommend U.S. History for Expats by Dr. Kent Blakeney. He is a credentialed Virginia teacher, covers all standards in depth, provides lessons at different levels and direct teaching support. Our son took his course this last year and loved it! While it was mostly asynchronous, Dr. Blakeney was always available for live mini lessons when my child needed it, including one on how to research and use MLA formatting. - Parent of U.S. History I student commenting of FB Group.

I would strongly recommend this course to other Americans living outside the United States. I found the course was well organized and engaging for students. It helped my daughter both learn the historical content as well as strengthened her academic skills (research, analysis, citation.) Mr. Blakeney provided effective and timely communication and delivered useful feedback throughout the course.
